Questions

Questions we hear every week.

Gathered from the front desk, the phone, and the treatment rooms. If yours is not here, call and ask. The good ones end up on this page.

Do I need a referral to book?

No. You can book massage therapy, physiotherapy, counselling, or acupuncture directly. A few extended health plans want a physician's referral before they reimburse, so check your plan's wording; we can help you decode it.

Do you direct bill my insurance?

We direct bill most major extended health insurers, including Pacific Blue Cross, Canada Life, Sun Life, Manulife, and Green Shield. You pay only what your plan does not cover. Bring your policy and member numbers to your first visit.

Do you take ICBC and WCB claims?

Yes, for physiotherapy and massage therapy. ICBC pre-approves treatment within the first 12 weeks after a crash and we bill them directly. WCB requires a claim number first; once you have one, we handle the paperwork.

What happens at a first visit?

A conversation before anything else: what brought you in, what your days look like, what you want back. Then assessment or treatment appropriate to the service, and a plain-language summary of what we found and suggest. Details by service are on the new patients page.

What should I wear?

Whatever you are comfortable in. For physiotherapy, clothes you can move in, and shorts if the problem lives below the hip. For massage, you undress only to your comfort level; effective work is possible through clothing. There is a change room either way.

How do I choose between massage and physio?

A rough rule: if you want relief from tension you can already name, start with massage therapy. If something keeps coming back, limits what you can do, or follows an injury or surgery, start with a physiotherapy assessment. If you choose the wrong door, we will walk you to the right one; the hallway is short.

Is counselling private in a town this small?

Yes, by design. Ruth's room has its own entrance off the side hall, appointments are visible only to the practitioners involved in your care, and secure video sessions exist for anyone who prefers to keep their car out of the parking lot. We take small-town privacy seriously because we live here too.

How many visits will I need?

Honest answer: it depends, and anyone who quotes you a number before assessing you is guessing. After a first visit your practitioner gives you their best estimate and revisits it openly as you go. You will never be sold a package or a prepaid block; we do not offer them.

What is your cancellation policy?

Less than 24 hours notice or a missed visit is charged 50% of the appointment rate. That said, we are humans in a mountain town: sick kids and snowed-in passes are real, so call us and we will be reasonable.

Is the clinic accessible?

The building is step-free from the Alder Street entrance, treatment rooms and the washroom fit mobility devices, and we book longer appointment slots on request at no extra charge. Two accessible parking spots sit beside the door. If anything about visiting would be easier with notice, tell us when you book.

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes, in any amount, usable toward any service. They are the town's default new-parent and thank-you gift, which we consider a very good local custom. Details on the gift cards page.

Should I tip my therapist?

No. Nobody here accepts tips. This is health care: the posted rate is the whole price, and the best thank-you is booking the follow-up your plan actually calls for.
