Headaches and jaw tension
Tension-type headaches and jaw clenching often travel together, and both leave fingerprints in the neck, scalp, and face. We work with them through massage therapy focused on the head and neck, acupuncture, and an honest look at the habits that feed them.
How it tends to show up
- A band of pressure that starts at the base of the skull and settles behind the eyes
- A jaw that aches by afternoon, or teeth that meet before you notice deciding it
- Temples that appreciate being rubbed more than seems reasonable
- Mornings that begin with a face already tired
How we approach it
Specific, careful work on the neck, scalp, and the jaw muscles, including the ones inside the cheek when appropriate and always with consent. Maren does most of the clinic's head and jaw work.
A quiet option many people with recurring headaches choose to include in their plan, particularly when stress and sleep are part of the pattern.
Clenching is often the body's filing system for stress. When that is the honest picture, Ruth's room is part of the answer.
What your dentist and we can do together
If you wake with jaw ache or your dentist has mentioned wear on your teeth, a night guard conversation belongs with them, and the muscle side of the equation belongs with us. The two work better in parallel: the guard protects the teeth while the treatment and habit work address the clench itself.
With your consent we are glad to coordinate directly with your dental office. Heron Reach has two; we get along with both.
